Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and commentator, who works with NBC News in Washington D.C., is a television anchor. She received an Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from the University of Pennsylvania after growing to be a part of New York City. Mitchell was hired as a reporter by KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in the year 1967. In 1976, she joined the CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV which was based in Washington DC (then WTOP). Then she joined NBC News Washington two years following that as an general reporter. The year 1981 saw her begin covering the White House and became chief Congress correspondent in 1988. She became the chief White House reporter in 1992 as well as chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell appeared as both a host and panelist in the TV news program Meet the Press. Mitchell was a panelist during 1988's presidential debates, that pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government for excellence in journalism. In 2004 in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition for her work in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell initially covered the White House for NBC News from 1981-1988 during both of Ronald Reagan's presidency. Her reporting included a number of crucial stories such as the Iran-Contra controversy, tax and budget reforms, as well as the issue of arms control. Mitchell traveled extensively with the president Reagan during summits together with Mikhail Gorbachev.
