
Gaga had a meeting with the performance artist Lady Starlight during this time; after a performance at the Lollapalooza Festival in 2007 Gaga was signed by Vince Herbert to Streamline Records, an imprint of Interscope Records. Gaga signed a publishing contract with Sony/ATV following her time as an apprentice songwriter at Famous Music Publishing. Gaga was commissioned to write songs for Britney, Fergie, New Kids on the Block, and the Pussycat dolls. At Interscope, singer-songwriter Akon recognized her vocal abilities when she sang a reference vocal for one of his tracks in studio; Akon then convinced Interscope-Geffen-A&M Chairman and CEO Jimmy Iovine to form a joint deal by having her also sign with his own label Kon Live, making her his "franchise player. In 2008 Gaga released her debut album 'The Fame' to minimal radio coverage. Gaga toured around Europe and at gay clubs in the US to launch the album. However, it wasn't until her first single "Just Dance" came into the spotlight in 2009 that Gaga was a star on the scene. Gaga was suffering from a Labral tear on her right leg. she was secretly nursing for several weeks in order to be able to continue the tour. She was unable walk following a performance in Toronto and was in extreme pain. The tour was canceled.
