Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation was the primary beneficiary. It was established by Bill Gates, Microsoft founder and his wife Melinda. They were focused on health and education in the world. Bill and Buffett have been friends since the beginning of the 1990s. Other organisations that received donations were the ones run by Buffett's children as well as the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation named after his late wife. The foundation was focused on reproductive health of women and provided scholarships for college. The Giving Pledge was an invitation for wealthy individuals to donate a significant portion of their money to charitable causes that was created by Buffett and Gates in the year 2010.
